Soulmate ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Soulmate mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the Service.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account data: Email address and password (or Apple ID credentials) when you create an account.
- Profile information: Name or display name you optionally provide.
- Conversation content: Messages, voice recordings, and images you send within the app.
- My Day data: Mood check-ins, habits, goals, and daily intentions you enter.
- Journal entries: AI-generated journal entries based on your conversations.
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: Interactions with the app, features used, session duration, and timestamps.
- Device data: Device type, operating system version, app version, and unique device identifiers.
- Crash reports: Error logs and diagnostic information to improve app stability.
- Push notification tokens: Device token to deliver personalized notifications (with your permission).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including AI responses personalized to your context.
- Process and respond to your messages using AI models (Anthropic Claude).
- Maintain your memory profile (mood history, habits, goals) to personalize AI interactions.
- Generate journal entries from your conversation history.
- Send push notifications for follow-ups, reminders, and check-ins (only with your consent).
- Process subscription payments and manage your account tier.
- Diagnose technical issues and improve app performance.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. AI Processing & Third-Party Services
Explicit disclosure: The core AI functionality of Soulmate requires sending your data to third-party providers. Before your first message is sent to any AI service, the app shows an in-app consent screen explaining this, and asks for your permission to continue. You may decline at any time by discontinuing use of the AI chat feature.
What we send, and to whom:
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Your chat messages, voice-transcription text, shared images (as base64), and relevant memory context (facts you have shared, mood history summaries, and companion persona settings) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for generating AI responses. Anthropic processes this data under its Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms, applying protections substantially equivalent to those described in this policy. Anthropic does not use API-submitted data to train their models.
- Groq (Whisper API): Voice recordings you send are transmitted to Groq for speech-to-text transcription. Only the transcribed text is stored on our servers; Groq does not retain the audio file after transcription.
- Supabase: Our backend infrastructure for database, authentication, file storage, and serverless functions. Your account data, conversation history, memory items, and encrypted attachments are stored in Supabase's PostgreSQL databases (EU region) with row-level security — you can only read and write your own data.
- OneSignal: Receives your device push token (not your messages) to deliver morning/evening check-in notifications you have enabled.
- RevenueCat: Manages in-app subscription state and receipt validation. Receives your user ID and Apple/Google purchase receipt; does not receive message content.
- Sentry: Receives anonymized crash reports and technical error diagnostics. No message content or memory data is sent to Sentry.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We do not use your conversation content, memory data, or voice recordings for advertising. We require each third-party processor above to apply protections substantially equivalent to those described in this policy for the data we share with them.
You can withdraw your consent to AI processing at any time by deleting your account (Settings → Delete Account), which removes all data from our servers and instructs our AI providers to purge any short-term caches held on our behalf.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on Supabase infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit (TLS 1.2+). Conversation history, memory layers, mood data, and journal entries are stored in a PostgreSQL database with row-level security — only you can access your own data.
Voice recordings are temporarily processed and the transcribed text is stored, not the original audio file. Images you send are stored in Supabase Storage with private access controls.
While we implement industry-standard security measures, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:
- Conversation history: Retained indefinitely while your account is active to enable memory features.
- Mood and habit data: Retained indefinitely to power statistics and trends.
- Journal entries: Retained indefinitely while your account is active.
- Account data: Retained for 30 days after account deletion, then permanently removed.
You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. Upon deletion, all your personal data, conversations, and generated content will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
6. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (right to be forgotten).
- Portability: Request an export of your data in a machine-readable format.
- Opt-out of notifications: Disable push notifications at any time via iOS Settings → Notifications → Soulmate.

7. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If we become aware that a child under 17 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information from our servers promptly.
8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. 9. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

- Consent: Push notifications and optional data processing.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our data processing is based in the United States (Supabase infrastructure).
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending a push notification or in-app notice.
